Castlecoote Bog Trail
Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants are delighted to be working with Castlecoote Tidy Towns on the planning and design of new trails across a range of habitats close to this beautiful Roscommon village. This award-winning Tidy Towns group took us on to survey route options for a new trail across cutover bogland near the River Suck. FFEC devised new trails that will add a total of 5km of route that will link up with the existing Suck Valley Way. We surveyed flora, habitat types, birds and even insects to help us locate the best route for the new trails.
We have also carried out a ground conditions assessment and advised on the positioning of stiles, signage and watercourse crossings. Unusual species found here included Common Meadow Rue and Northern Wasp Hoverfly (this is believed to be the first record for this species in Co. Roscommon).
