Portmagee – Local Biodiversity Action Plan
In 2017, Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants devised a Local Biodiversity Action Plan for the seaside village of Portmagee, Co. Kerry. This was a fascinating project involving fieldwork in this beautiful location over several months. Fifteen habitat types were recorded as well as many bird species and even seals. The surveys also recorded invasive species which are a problem for not just Portmagee but for much of this part of Co. Kerry. Roadside areas on the approach to Portmagee were surprisingly diverse in terms of flora. The Biodiversity Action Plan made a number of recommendations that included further invasive species actions, a survey of garden birds and several pollinator-friendly actions for gardeners.
