Dr Darragh Murphy

BA, MSc, PhD

Darragh is an Ecologist with a diverse background in ecological and environmental research, environmental education and environmental consultancy. 

Darragh holds a BA in Zoology from Trinity College Dublin, an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation from University of Exeter and a PhD in Environmental Science from University College Cork. His PhD thesis was entitled: ‘The impacts of a suite of Nature-based Solutions on hydrology and water quality in an agricultural landscape’.

Darragh has spent a number of years engaged in wildlife research and conservation on projects in Ireland, the Peruvian Amazon, Seychelles and the South African Kalahari. During his research on the role of nature-based solutions for flood and water quality management, Darragh worked closely with researchers from the field, farmers and agencies such as Teagasc and OPW. Findings from this research have been published in international academic journals, presented at conferences and featured on the RTÉ television program “10 Things to Know About.”

Darragh’s research has been applied to a number of Flynn Furney projects, including farm water quality features at a large dairy farm in Ballinadee, Co. Cork.
