Simon Furney
(Director), BAgrSc, MCIEEM, MIFM
Simon has been involved in ecological work since the early 1990s. He studied Agricultural Science in UCD and then specialised in Wildlife Studies within the Department of Environmental Resource Management.
He pursued a Masters in gamebird research, looking at the effects of habitat management on wild birds and its benefit to other species. After meeting Billy Flynn at UCD, they forged a partnership that has evolved into FFEC.
By initially working on large infrastructure projects such as the M1 and M50, he developed a key understanding of the role, and the need for effective ecological consultants. This developed into a solutions-based approach that he quickly realised had to be both practical, feasible and effective.
Working closely with designers and engineers, he has developed an understanding of integrating ecological mitigation into the design of projects.
This has helped him provide the role of on-site ecologist, environmental specialist and ecological clerk of works on several schemes throughout Ireland.
